but most of them are too heavy and even a commercial one.
In linux, anyone can resize multiple images at one command line.
If I have 200 JPG pictures of 3872x2592 (10 Mega pixel) in 'photo' directory and want to resize all the images into 50% size (1936x1296), Choose one of the following methods.
each method use a convert command provided as a part of imagemagick package.
so you have to install imagemagick first.
sudo apt-get install imagemagick.
1. Using shell script.
photo$ for k in $(ls *.JPG); do convert $k -resize 1936x1296 -quality 100 re_$k; done
2. Using find command
photo$find . -name “*.JPG” -exec convert '{}' -resize 1936x1296 -quality 100 re_'{}'\;

Gutsy gibbon IM setting
I installed gutsy gibbon by upgrade.
at feisty,first changed /etc/apt/sources.list file.
replace all "feisty" into "gutsy" using ":%s/feisty/gutsy/g" command in vi.
and "sudo apt-get update"
and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade".
that's all and it will takes about 40 minutes in my pc.
I installed english and korean language.
but log-in as english setting in GDM does not accept me to use korean input.
so I googled about solution.
Here's my soulution.
$ sudo apt-get install scim-hangul im-switch ttf-unfonts ttf-alee
$ sudo im-switch -z en_US -s scim-hangul
this command make you use korean input in en_US locale.

"The key to hooking up is the networking thing," Lavinthal says. "And alcohol has a lot to do with it -- people don't really hook up at Starbucks. There's the group that's getting married and the group that's hooking up -- it's what everyone's doing now."
Lavinthal and Rozler discuss the joys of casual sex with Playboy.com, from the rules of drunk dialing to friends with benefits.
THE APPROACH
"In a bar, a guy shouldn't approach a girl he flat-out doesn't know," Lavinthal advises. When girls are out having fun, they might want to meet a guy, but they don't necessarily want to be cornered by a stranger. "There should be some kind of connection to that person," she adds, "so it makes the girl feel like this isn't some random guy she's about to go home with." It's like networking for a job, but more fun. Make sure you have references -- someone who can vouch for you.
NOT ALWAYS SEX IN THE CITY
Guys should not assume they're going to get laid. "Sex isn't always going to come into play when you're hooking up. Hooking up means a wide variety of things," Rozler explains. "There's the hookup in the bar, when you're sucking face," Lavinthal adds, "and when you leave, you say, 'I hooked up with him.'" A hookup that lasts a few weeks or more will usually end up in a sexual relationship, but girls still make some kind of rule about that. Hooking up is not all about sex.

"A girl feels more comfortable at her place. It's the 'stuff' factor -- we need our stuff," Lavinthal says. "You're likely to get more ass if you're at her place. If you do hook up with a recent squeeze, the authors counsel that you nix talking about friends and the future, and that you try to avoid spending the night.

Mercury, Gemini, Apollo 등의 우주선이 전시되어 있다. 간혹 우주비행사나 NASA의 과학자, 엔지니어 등을 볼 수도 있다. 관광객들은 우주왕복선을 답사하거나 모의실험 등을 지켜볼 수 있다. 또는 우주에서 사용되었던 장비나 달의 암석을 전시한 곳을 둘러볼 수도 있다. Heritage Society in Sam Houston Park는 다운타운의 서쪽에 20에이커에 걸쳐 자리하고 있는 공원. 공원관리는 the Harris County Heritage Society가 맡고 있으며 1823년에서 1905년에 걸쳐 지어진 8개의 역사적 건조물이 있다. 이중에는 작은 교회도 포함되있다. Old Place라고 게시된 것은 이 지역에서 가장 오래된 건축물이다. The Museum of Texas History도 이곳에 자리하고 있다. 이 박물관에서는 다양한 전시회들이 열린다. 뮤지엄 옆에 위치한 The Long Row에는 선물가게와 차 마시는 곳이 있다.

Houston Zoological Gardens이라 불리는 이 동물원에서 가장 사람들의 이목을 집중시키는 것은 단연 흰 호랑이다. 이곳은 사람들로 붐빈다. 이외에 고릴라와 트로피칼 버드하우스도 인기있는 곳이다. 트로피칼버드하우스에는 200여종의 새들있으며 새 사육장안을 자유롭게 날아다니는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 아이들에게 특별한 즐거움을 선사하는 곳 중에 애완동물로도 가능한 온순한 동물들이 모여있는 Discovery Center와 Wortham World of Primates 등이 있다. 투어시간은 대략 2시간이 소요된다.

뉴 올리언즈
뉴올리언즈는 루이지애나주의 남동부에 위치하고 있는 미시시피 삼각주에 발달한 무역항 도시로 미국에서 뉴욕의 뒤를 잇는 제2의 항만 도시이다. 미시시피강의 입구에서 약 170Km 정도 위쪽에 자리하고 있다. 프랑스와 스페인 도시로 번창했던 옛 도시의 면모를 엿볼 수 있고 변화하는 문화적 배경으로 이국적인 정취를 풍기는 도시이다. 1682년 프랑스의 탐험가 러셀에 의해 발견되었고 미시시피강 지역이 그 당시의 프랑스에 의해 개발되었다. 1763년 프랑스는 루이지애나의 땅을 스페인에 양도하여 뉴올리언즈도 40년간 스페인의 영토에 속하게 되었다. 40년이 지난 1801년 다시 프랑스의 영토가 되지만 2년이 지난 1803년 나폴레옹에 의해 미합중국에 양도되었다. 그 때의 미국 대통령은 제3대 토머스 제퍼슨이었다.

잭 슨 광장위로 높이 솟아 있는 세인트 루이즈 대성당(St. Louis Cathedral)은 1794년에 완공된 미국에서 가장 오래된 교회로 세개의 첨탑이 있는 스페인식 건축양식으로 만들어진 건물이다. 그림으로 장식된 천정과 벨기에제 제단이 볼만하다. 이곳은 수천의 뉴올리언즈 시민이 예배를 드리고 있는, 아직까지도 활발한 교구활동을 하는 성당이다.
세인트 루이즈 대성당의 현재 모습은 사실 세번째로 지어진 것이다. 첫번째 교회건물은 1722년 태풍으로 파괴되었고, 프렌치 쿼터에 있던 거의 모든 건축물들이 소멸되었던 1788년 화재때 두번째로 파괴되었었다.

시 티파크(City Park)는 뉴올리언즈 북서쪽 1,500에이커에 자리하고 있는 미국내에서 5번째로 큰 규모의 도심공원이다. 공원내에는 식물원, 인공호수, 미술관 등이 있어 자연의 아름다움을 감상하는 것은 물론이고 예술의 아름다움 감상의 기회도 제공하고 있다.
시티파크는 100여년전 뉴올리언즈의 교육계의 후원자였던 자선사업가 존 맥노우(John McDonogh)가 시에 100에이커의 부지를 공원으로 조성할 것을 조건으로 기증하여 만들어졌고 현재는 1,500에이커의 넓이를 어우르고 있다. 한해 평균 1,400백만명의 방문객이 공원의 웅장한 오크나무와 그림같은 동상과 분수, 오래된 건물들을 둘러보거나 골프, 낚시, 보트타기 등의 스포츠를 즐기고 돌아간다.

잭슨 스퀘어(Jackson Square)는 프렌치 쿼터의 중심에 위치한 광장으로 역사적인 건축물들로 가득하다. 광장 중앙에 잭슨 장군상이 있고, 정면에는 세인트 루이스 대성당이 있다.
화가들이 자기가 그린 그림을 세워놓고, 즉석에서 초상화를 그려주고, 가끔 재즈 콘서트도 열린다.

The Cabildo는 1795년 스페인 정복자들이 식민지 정부 건물로 사용할 목적으로 건설하였다. 미국이 프랑스로부터 미시시피강 분지지역의 서쪽을 사들인다는 내용의 계약이 사인된 곳이기도 하다. 이 구매후 The Cabildo는 뉴올리언즈 시의회 건물이 되었다.

프 렌치 마켓(French Market)은 미시시피강 연안 노스 피터스 스트리트(North Peters streets)와 데카터 스트리트(Decatur Streets)를 따라 수 블록에 걸쳐 자리하고 있는 시장으로 미국에서 도시에 들어서 있는 가장 오래된 시장이다. 이곳에 가게는 벼룩시장, 멕시코인이나 인디언들의, 레스토랑, 카페 등이 있다. 프렌치 마켓에서는 끈질긴 흥정을 통해 가장 좋은 물건이라고 생각되는 것을 구입할 수 있다. 주말에는 벼룩시장이 들어선다.
이 지역은 유럽인들이 정착하기 이전에도 촉토족 인디언들이 무역 거래가 이루어졌었다. 스페인인들이 1771년 세웠던 최초의 빌딩이 1812년 태풍에 의해 파괴되고 난후 건물의 뼈대는 그대로 두고 가판들이 들어서기 시작하면서 프렌치 마켓이 생겨난 것이다. 프렌치 마켓은 매일 오전 9시부터 저녁 6시까지 연다. 프렌치 마켓 인포메이션, 비지터 센터는 1008 N. Peters St.,에 위치하고 있으며 전화 504/522-2621이다.

정식명은 뷰 카레(VIEUX CARRE). 버본거리와 로열거리를 중심으로 한 크레올요리를 선보이는 오래된 식당, 나이트클럽, 바, 선물상점 등이 늘어서 있으며 19세기의 분위기가 짙다.
뉴올리언즈는 미국에서 두개뿐인, 술집이 문을 닫는 시간이 법으로 규제받고 있지 않은 도시이다. 프렌치 쿼터(French Quarter) 특히 버번 스트리트(Bourbon St, 이름만으로도 어떤 거리인지 알 수 있음)는 바로 그 증거지로 낮에는 산뜻한 레스토랑, 5성급 호텔, 골동품점, 옷가게 등이 들어선 거리이지만 밤이되면 사정이 좀 달라진다. 무허가 스트립 술집과 라이브 음악 클럽들이 불을 밝히며 이 거리는 술을 마시고 흥청대는 사람들로 넘쳐난다. 그렇기 때문에 밤에 이곳을 방문하려는 사람은 어두운 골목같은 곳은 피하는 것이 상책이다. 왜냐하면 어두움 뒤편에 강도들이 도사리고 있을지도 모르기 때문이다.

가 든 디스트릭트(Garden District)는 1840년대에서 70년대사이의 건물이 즐비한 지역이다. 세인트 찰스 애비뉴와 매거진 스트리트 사이의 잭슨 애비뉴에서 루이지애나 애비뉴에 이르는 지역. 푸른뜰과 화초로 꾸민 울타리가 아름답다. 일반인에게 공개하는 주택은 없고 밖에서만 돌아볼 수 있다. 이 지역을 지나면 양쪽에 고급 주택이 줄지어 있다. 성과 같은 웅장한 저택에서부터 동화에나 나올 듯한 사랑스런 집까지 다양한 풍경이 전개된다. 장 라피드 국립역사공원에서 주최하는 무료 도보 투어를 이용하는 것이 가장 편하게 이곳을 둘러보는 방법이다.

오 듀본 동물원(Audubon Zoo)은 미국내에서 가장 좋은 자연환경을 지닌 동물공원 가운데 한 곳이다. 동물원은 뉴올리언즈 다운타운 남서쪽에 위치한 오듀본 공원안에 자리잡고 있다. 그리고 오듀본 공원은 세인트 찰스 애버뉴에서 미시시비강까지 약 42만평에 달한다. 1,500여종이 넘는 동물을 볼 수 있으며, 사자, 백호랑이, 열대조류, 거대한 악어가 서식하는 루이지애나의 습지 등을 구경할 수 있다.

나폴레옹 하우스(Napoleon House)는 뉴올리언즈 지역 작가들과 예술가들에게 오랫동안 사랑을 받고 있는 곳이다. 특히 늦은 오후 이 곳의 안뜰은 지나가는 행인들을 구경하기에 안성마춤인 장소이다.
1814년에 프랑스 공화당 지지자들이 엘바로 유배된 나폴레옹 보나파르트를 구출해 이곳으로 옮겨올 마음으로 만들었다는 이야기가 전해지고 있지만 반대바들은 나폴레옹의 사후에 지어졌다는 점을 지적하고 있다. 현재는 바와 카페로 사용되고 있다.

I purchased below item from you through the eBay.
Item # 280124898680 - Nikon D80 Digital SLR- 18-55mm & 70-300mm PRO 3Lens Kit
The camera was delivered today and I was very happy about fast shipping. But images taken from new camera are terrible. I'm afraid that the new camera you sent me is defective one. Please download and see the attached picture taken by new camera. for ease of compare I sent two pictures taken from different camera. DSC_0034.jpg is taken by new Nikon D-80. SA502709.jpg is taken from my old samsung digital camera. You can see horrible noise and too much yellow-oriented color. If this can be simply corrected by change of setting, please let me know and I will be very happy about that. Hope to see good news.
they send me a reply at June -25(!).
It took two days for reply like this.
So I call them and ask what do i have to.
he said "just send camera body only to us ".
For my asking of resending cost, he replied "we will give it back as receipt you send"
So I send the defective camera via UPS air shipping and put the receipt in it.
Then i sent email to sales department. (june-25)
I contacted and talked customer service representative. I shipped defective camera body via UPS 2nd day air delivery. It will be delivered to you for tomorrow (6-26-2007). He told me that this item's Return authorization code is rdex_jayjeankwak. UPS tracking number is 1ZA9V9400700666###. I also attached receipt of shippment for you to refund it to me. Please let me know if you receive the returned item and ready to ship the new one. I'm sure that you will send me a 'not defective' brand new camera - of course not a refurbished or repaired one. Regards.
they did not reply this mail for two days.
in the end of my pacient, I call again at june-28.
They said "the inspection of returned camera will be done for 3 or 4 days."
and " call us at next monday(july-2)"
It makes me so upset but i didn't know any other way to resolve this situation but just waiting.
After long and tough waiting, I call them again at july-2.
"The new camera will be shipped at this evening" he said.
I asked him " how about my shipping cost?"
but he answered "We didn't find any receipt from you".
"I PUT THE RECEIPT IN THE BOX" I yelled.
"The box was already disposed so we can't find the receipt"
....
After for some seconds of silence he offered me that they will send it via airshipping.
but I was really upset by their rude customer service, I said "No, that's not enough."
"It is caused by you sent me a defective one and Sending it back via airshipping is none of deal issue. I need you send me my shipping cost too!"
After another seconds of silence he offered me additional 1GB SD memory and air shipping.
It did not worth as I spent for it, but I have accept it.
BUT
after 20 or 30 minutes, They call me - it was the first call from them!.
He said " we can't give you the additional memory. Air shipping is our final offer. "
I have to accept it because there is no way after i reject it.
if I want to send back all item and refund it, it is so clear that they will make thing more complicated and even worse.
Tomorrow I got the package, Camera looks new and image taken seems good.
but camera box was already opened one and even different model's.
The only thing I can do for this terrible deal is give them a negative feedback.
I left a message on feedback.
"Not recommended. shipped defective camera. returned camera box already opened."
after 1 hours later they replied to this feedback.

So I tell him " OK. everything I can accept what you said even though I don't agree with it. but how about my returning shipping cost?"
then he said "We can refund it. we are not bad company."

with two weeks of stress for it, I finally refunded shipping cost of $39. Then I agreed to remove negative feedback.

The camera was delivered today and I was very happy about fast shipping. But images taken from new camera are terrible. I'm afraid that the new camera you sent me is defective one. Please download and see the attached picture taken by new camera. for ease of compare I sent two pictures taken from different camera. DSC_0034.jpg is taken by new Nikon D-80. SA502709.jpg is taken from my old samsung digital camera. You can see horrible noise and too much yellow-oriented color. they did not reply this mail for two days.
in the end of my pacient, I call again at june-28.
They said "the inspection of returned camera will be done for 3 or 4 days."

It makes me so upset but i didn't know any other way to resolve this situation but just waiting.
After long and tough waiting, I call them again at july-2.
"The new camera will be shipped at this evening" he said.
I asked him " how about my shipping cost?"
but he answered "We didn't find any receipt from you".

After for some seconds of silence he offered me that they will send it via airshipping.
but I was really upset by their rude customer service, I said "No, that's not enough."

After another seconds of silence he offered me additional 1GB SD memory and air shipping.
It did not worth as I spent for it, but I have accept it.
BUT
after 20 or 30 minutes, They call me - it was the first call from them!.
He said " we can't give you the additional memory. Air shipping is our final offer. "
I have to accept it because there is no way after i reject it.
if I want to send back all item and refund it, it is so clear that they will make thing more complicated and even worse.
Tomorrow I got the package, Camera looks new and image taken seems good.
but camera box was already opened one and even different model's.
The only thing I can do for this terrible deal is give them a negative feedback.
I left a message on feedback.
"Not recommended. shipped defective camera. returned camera box already opened."

purchased from J&K camera at ebay.
it was new nikon D-80 but the box was opened because it is a greymarket model.
it's user manual was replaced as copied english version from japanese version.
I took some shots with new camera.
But it is a defective one.
the defection may be caused in CCD or firmware.
terrible crispy image quality and dirty, yellowish color.

The laptop is still available, in perfect condition, and I will sell it only in US because here the warranty and the DellCare are US registered.
I can't use the laptop here in UK because it works on 110 V. Korean input in OpenOffice.org
Due to uncomvenient failure in my 'udev' configuration in my ubuntu edgy, I have to upgrade to unstable feisty fawn.
unfortunately 'apt-get dist-upgrade' command also does not run. so I have to install feisty fawn like a package by package.
As easy as ubuntu distribution, installing was successfully finished.
all my system was recovered to ready to use.
EXCEPT korean language input in openoffice.org.
no matter how I try to input korean language, SCIM input method does not working.
after gooling the situation, I checked my environment of Input Method.
for example, http://www.mrbass.org/linux/ubuntu/scim/

GTK_IM_MODULE="scim"
QT_IM_MODULE="scim"
and change of configuration in OOO asian language support.
but all my effort was resulted as failure.

Beryl need too much CPU resource
Beryl, as well as compiz, 3d desktop environment make vista looks too out dated.
but they need too much system resources especially in CPU.
my toshiba satellite 5100 has quite good hardware spec.
intel pentium 4 moble 1.6GHz and 1GB of RAM, Nvidia 440 Go (NV17).
but that cannot satisfy the need of linux 3d desktop environment.
RAM and VGA reach the level of optimizing with several system mod, but CPU load cannot be optimized.
AS it shows in capture video, whenever beryl visualization effect was used, CPU usage goes to 100%.
These too much CPU usage make system much slower than normal gnome metacity environment.

Linux -Optimizing Desktop Performance

Where the Speed Goes
Many points exist in a PC where an operating system can bottleneck and slow down. One of the most common places for this to happen lies between random access memory (RAM) and the hard drive. Even if your system does have an ample supply of fast RAM, it might decide to conserve it and use virtual disk memory, which is contained in the swap file on the hard drive. The hard drive runs 100 times slower than RAM, so that's one place system speed goes.
You can fix this problem with system speed by adding more RAM. A few years ago, I often bought computers and added memory that doubled and tripled the price of the base system. I had to do this because as a writer I used graphics programs, and they used a lot of RAM. Fortunately, RAM doesn't cost much any more. You can buy a 1GB stick of generic RAM for most desktop computers for about $150. If you use a laptop, the memory costs more. Still, the increased performance of your computer makes the cost seem insignificant.
If you have enough RAM available, Linux uses that instead of the hard drive. In Figure 1, you can see a screenshot of Fedora's performance monitor on a system containing 768MB of RAM. Notice in a couple of places how the CPU jumped up while the memory remained steady. The monitored system is an AMD Sempron 2200 with a 1.5GHz processor. This system came from the Micro Center with 256MB of RAM and sells for approximately $250. It's a PowerSpec SBB1. I added 512MB of memory for $70.

To keep this system from immediately accessing the swap drive, I utilized one of the features of the Linux kernel and reduced its propensity for immediately looking for the swap file. People call this kernel aspect swappiness. It's a run-time tunable available through the proc interface for anyone needing to adapt kernel behavior to his or her own requirements.
The higher the parameter, the more the computer uses the disk. So, if you compile a large piece of software, you might want to use RAM for other things while you let the computer sit and compile. But, if you want to write a proposal and need to get to the Internet to do research, answer e-mail and use instant messaging, you probably want to use RAM instead of the disk.
On my system, I reduced the tendency for the kernel to use the swap file. I did so by running this command:
$ sudo cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
and found the setting at 60. That's the default set by the kernel developers. I wanted a lower number, so I ran:
$ sudo sysctl -w vm.swappiness=10
and ran the cat command again and it registered 10. I added
vm.swappiness=10 to /etc/sysctl.conf
I put this on the last line. No comments existed for that entry, so it looks naked in the configuration file. I noted an immediate improvement in responsiveness, and with the entry in /etc/sysctl.conf, the system booted up with the value of 10 as the new default.
Freeing More Memory
On a default Linux configuration, distributors provide six text-mode virtual consoles. You can access each console by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 through Ctrl+Alt+F6; Ctrl+Alt+F7 switches to the graphical desktop. Each virtual console consumes memory.
Virtual consoles attracted me to Linux and they are one of my favorite features. But, I don't use those consoles much. I like having an extra one so I can get to a graphic terminal if I need, but as a desktop user, I don't need six.
I edit /etc/inittab (see Figure 2) and commented out four or so of the six lines that spawn gettys. This allows me to free up more memory to use with my OpenOffice.org productivity suite, which we'll reconfigure in a few moments.

Speeding Up OpenOffice.orgs' Launch
One of the major complaints that I hear is how long it takes the OpenOffice.org applications to launch. You can add a quickstart applet to GNOME by installing the program ooqstart- gnome, which may help some. However, an internal adjustment to OOo Writer can improve the entire suite's performance.
To accomplish this, you need to start the word processor, Writer. Next, you need to open the Tools drop-down menu and select options. Once you open the options box, you are ready to adjust the memory and speed up your Linux productivity suite. Let's look at Figure 3.

In the above figure, you can see that we selected the first expansion box and then clicked Memory with our mouse. This exposed the window you see in Figure 3. I changed the default values under the Graphics cache for Use for OpenOffice.org and Memory per Object. I increased the first value from 6 to 128MB. I also increased the second value from .5 to 20MB.
After clicking OK, I closed the word processor and reopened it two times. On each occasion, the application took less time to open. Under Ubuntu, I found that OO Writer opened in three seconds, and in Fedora it opened in less than six seconds. Previously, it took 30 and 26 seconds, respectively, for the word processor to launch.
Just the Start
Due to space limitations, we have to break this discussion of optimizations into different parts. Hopefully, the first article enables you to make improvements in your desktop's performance. Each change we make in future articles will have a cumulative effect, and soon you will see your entire Linux operating system in a new way--as a fast desktop.

I was getting slow performance because I was using AGPGART and not the nvidia one. Switching back to nvidia-agp:
$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: NVIDIA
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Enabled
SBA: Enabled
...performance is back to normal, of course the black windows are still here

Then, add 'agp=off' to the kernel parameters in grub.conf:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 ro root=LABEL=/1 agp=off
Then re-boot.
Then check:

Status: Enabled

Configuring nVidia Drivers on Ubuntu

I’ve been fiddling around with Ubuntu Breezy lately, it seems like a solid system, more or less. I’m going to get to that later on, but now I’m going to document how to properly install nVidia drivers on Ubuntu.
Ubuntu’s Wiki has many out-dated documents on how to do that, and they all say that it’s as easy as running:
apt-get install nvidia-glx
nvidia-glx-config enable
After rebooting, nVidia drivers should be installed. If you want to check, run:
glxgears -printfps
On my GeForce 6800 Ultra I’m getting around 14,000 FPS, I’m sure I can speed it up with more tweaking, but I don’t really have the time for it.
The thing is, enabling nVidia GLX drivers isn’t enough to get the performance these drivers are capable of. So here’s what you need to do:
First, check whether you’re using AGPGART or NVIDIA AGP drivers:
$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: NVIDIA
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled
If it says AGPGART instead of NVIDIA then you should add nvidia-agp to your /etc/modules just before the line that says nvidia (assuming you already run nvidia-glx-config enable).
This tells the system to load nVidia AGP drivers on start-up, but that’s not it, you need to also disable loading AGPGART, nvidia-agp doesn’t work with AGPGART loaded, so add it to hotplug’s blacklist:
$ tail /etc/hotplug/blacklist
# snd_intel8x0m can interfere with snd_intel8x0, doesn't seem to support much
# hardware on its own (Ubuntu bug #2011, #6810)
snd_intel8x0m
# causes failure to suspend on HP compaq nc6000 (Ubuntu: #10306)

I had to blacklist amd64_agp too because it depeneds on agpgart. Note that this doesn’t prevent AGPGART from loading again, but this makes sure that NVIDIA AGP is loaded before it.
Next, you should add a few performance-enhancing options to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Just above the line that says Driver "nvidia" add these:
Option "NoLogo" "true" # Disables nVidia's logo on start-up
Option "NvAGP" "1" # Tries internal nVidia AGP drivers first
Option "RenderAccel" "true" # Duh :)
Option "CursorShadow" "true" # Adds an alpha-shadow to your cursor
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true" # Mostly used for cool effects
Note that using AllowGLXWithComposite can cause the system to act a little flaky when you enable Composite extension. This is used for cute Vista-like effects, like transparent windows, drop-shadows, etc. Use with caution.
Well, I hope that’s it. I didn’t have to recompile my kernel or nVidia drivers, most went out smoothly, except for the fact that I had to search a lot for this information.
One last tip, try to install an optimized kernel as soon as possible. Ubuntu comes with linux-386 package, try to upgrade it to linux-686 or linux-k7, depeneding on your hardware, you’ll notice a performance increase.

P.S. Turns out most of my performance gripes with Ubuntu was because of nVidia’s “inproper” installation. Like I saidnvidia-glx-config enable didn’t quite do the trick

linux screen recording
After successful setup of beryl/compiz desktop, I was about to want capture desktop behavior.
Like "Fraps" in windows platform, capable of capturing composite 3d screen is required.
as a conclusion, I didn't find that kind of tool yet.
Followings are my candidate for recording tool.
1. ffmpeg.
satellite:~$sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
satellite:~$ffmpeg -vcodec mpeg4 -b 1000 -r 10 -g 300 -vd x11:0,0 -s 1024x768 ~/test.avi
but ffmpeg can't find grab device x11:0,0.
2. Istanbul
satellite:~$sudo apt-get install istanbul
it is well integrated with gnome desktop and save recording as ogg media.
but interface is not straight and output ogg file cannot be played in totem.
3. recordmydesktop
satellite:~$sudo apt-get install recordmydesktop
satellite:~$sudo apt-get install mplayer (install to encode output ogg media to mpeg4)
satellite:~$recordmydesktop --no-sound --on-the-fly-encoding
output media file named "out.ogg" is created.
now convert this file to mpeg4 format for compatibility.
satellite:~$ mencoder out.ogg -vf scale=640:480 -o title.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4
grabbing and converting done successfully!
But it cannot record the beryl's animation effect.
